Cooper at 6 Years Old

Here are SIX things about Cooper at six years old!

1- One big defining characteristic of Cooper that has been around for a while is that he is energetic!  This boy is non-stop.  He loves to be outside, he loves to play, and he does not slow down.  He doesn't nap anymore, and I promise that he is moving non-stop from the minute that his feet hit the ground in the morning.  He is ready to go!  I love this about him, and I would chose this over a lazy child any day!

2-In the past six months or so, Cooper has started to become a way pickier eater than he typically is.  I remember LL going through this same phase (I think around this age?), so I'm just trying to not make a big deal of it and hope that it will pass soon.  He's still a pretty good eater, but he's just starting to say that he doesn't like things that we know he does.

3-Part of getting bigger is that he has such a bigger sense of independence.  He doesn't want us to do things for him anymore, he wants to do them for himself.  Along with this, we've started giving him some more responsibility around the house.  He makes his bed every day, he cleans up before and after his bath, and he helps with laundry, and he's been unloading parts of the dishwasher for us!

4-Cooper has always leaned more towards the emotional side of things, but we've really been able to see that more in him lately.  Six years old was a very rough time for LL, and I remember her going through this, too.  It's such a tricky thing to juggle as a parent - you want your child to express their emotions, but they also need to do it in a way that is acceptable.  This summer has been a good, consistent time for us to talk about how to handle our feelings!

5- This boy is playful!  He will turn anything and everything into a game!  He is also enjoying games now: Uno, Go Fish, Candy Land, Monopoly - you name it, he'll play it!  We've been playing a lot more games as a family lately, too!

6-Finally.  Finally.  Finally.  After 6 years, Cooper is starting to not be such an early riser!  He still has some mornings when he's up around 6:00, but we've only seen the 5:00 hour just a few times.  It's so nice!  He's even started sleeping until 7:00 or 7:30 a good bit, and this morning he even made it to 8:00!  While I'm loving this and soaking it up as much as I can, it might make things a lot harder for us when school starts and we all have to get up early!

Cooper's 6th Birthday

In the post about Cooper's birthday party, I talked a little bit about how having a summer birthday is not all it's cracked up to be.  While all of that is true concerning planning and hosting a party, there are some major benefits to having a summer birthday: mainly, he will never go to school on his birthday!  We get to celebrate all day long!  LL has to go to school a good bit on her actual birthday (in February), but Cooper never has to worry about that!

He was up bright and early, and immediately wanted to open his presents that we put out on the table the night before.  (Side note: how cute is his little bed head?  We call it his "rooster hair", and it is just so adorable to me!)

His big gift this year was a big-boy scooter!  He had been riding the same three-wheeled scooter for several years, and it was beyond time to get a new one.  Now that we're in a neighborhood (and not in the country on a dirt road), he has a lot more opportunity to ride around (and LL does, too)!

He saw this light saber in the Star Wars store at Disney Springs when we were there with the ParkersEmily was extra sneaky and bought it for me and put it in the bottom of her stroller - and Cooper was none the wiser.  He was so excited to open this up on his birthday - I don't think he expected it at all!

It's become our yearly tradition to go to the "Donut Store" for breakfast on Cooper's birthday.  He loves donuts (heck - we all do!), so he really looks forward to it every year!

He picked out one blueberry filled and one chocolate covered for his breakfast.

LL went for a cinnamon roll!

After breakfast, Matt went to work and the kids and I came back to the house for some play time.  After lunch Cooper wanted to go see Incredibles 2.  Since Matt couldn't go, we called Grammy and she came with us!

Since it was his birthday, LL was nice and actually held his hand on the way in - haha.

The movie was great!  It was a fun way to spend Cooper's birthday afternoon!

Cooper's biggest request for his birthday was to eat at "blue Burger King".  It's this nasty Burger King next to the interstate in our town.  It is so gross, and I hate it (Grammy and Pop are the ones that have taken him there), but he loves it because of the huge play area.  I tried my best to talk him into even Chick-Fil-A, but he wasn't having it!  Since it was his birthday, he got what he asked for!

Ben was in town, so Oma and Opa brought him there to play, too.  We let the kids eat there, but Matt and I declined - haha.  We usually have a big family dinner of the night of the kid's birthday, but since he wanted to go to Burger King, we didn't see a need for inviting everyone to come there.  He was just as happy as he could be with LL and Ben!

Instead of cake, Cooper picked out a huge cinnamon roll at the Donut Store that morning that he wanted instead.  We put in a candle and sang him Happy Birthday with his cinnamon roll!

Keeping his eye on the prize.  ;)

SIX years old!

When I look around our house and realize that we are 100% done with all things baby, it surprises me so much.  That phase just passed so quickly!  Now, our youngest is six years old and we're headlong into "big kid" territory!

Summer: Week 5

Week 5 of our summer vacation was from June 18 - 24!

We had some people coming to the house on Monday to do some air conditioner work, so the kids went to Grammy and Pop's to play (since the a/c would be turned off for hours!).  While they played, I stayed at home with the a/c guys.

That afternoon, I stopped for a treat on the way to Gigi's house.  We had our old bedroom suite over there, and some people were coming to pick it up (I sold it online).  I tried the ultimate caramel frappichino - but I didn't love it.  It was still to coffee tasting to me - haha.

I ordered the kids some summer workbooks to complete this summer, and they actually really love them!

After dinner we all went outside, and the kids played while Matt and I did some yard work.  One of the weirdest things about this house is that there is too much pine straw in every flower bed.  Like it's so thick that there is mold growing under it.  Slowly we're starting to pull it all out and shape up the bushes (that haven't been touched in years).

Tuesday was my first "work day" at my new school.  I met my fellow ELA teachers up at the school to talk about our curriculum for next year.  While I was at school, the kids went to swim at Gigi's with some family that was in town!

We did some more yard work after dinner and got a trailer full of waste!  This isn't even close to all of what we need to get rid of in the yard.

We have been having a time with IKEA and a new couch that we ordered through their website.  It has been a long, frustrating battle.  Finally, we just cancelled the whole order, and Matt and Poppy drove down to Jacksonville to just pick it up themselves.

While Matt was gone to Jacksonville, the kids and I just had a day of hanging out and running errands.  We went to the gym, we went out to lunch with Gigi, we swam.  Just a lot of this and that!  I did go pick up Gigi's dog from the groomer and I drove my mom's car.  She has a car seat specifically for the dog, and it just cracked me up.

Around dinner time Matt and Poppy got back with the couch.  Goodbye old couch!

And then the drama with the couch continued.  Ugh.  It was the wrong size slip cover for the couch we got!

We had a fun morning planned for pool time with friends!

We headed to a nearby town to go swimming with some of our friends.  Cooper and Andrew are only 6 weeks apart and have a great time together!

Their pool is so awesome.  The kids love it!

They just had their third baby about 2 months ago.  I'm telling you - I am in Heaven with all of my friends having these sweet, snuggly babies!

We came inside for a little while after swimming and both kids wanted to hold Baby Isaac!

That evening after dinner, we all loaded up to go get some ice cream!

On our nightly walk, Cooper found a pretty cooked snake.

Friday was a pretty frustrating day.  I went to the gym to work out, but the kids area was closed when we got there.  So I decided to run some errands for Cooper's birthday party instead, and this happened:

My sweet mom drove all the way back to Jacksonville on Thursday to get the correct cover for our new couch, so we finally got it all put together.  It looks great!!

LL and I love summer when all of the Ranier cherries are in season!

Saturday morning we kicked off the day with Cooper's 6th birthday party!  You can read all about it here!

This is real life after a birthday party.  Parents asleep, kids playing - haha.

That night for dinner, we all loaded up and went to a new Mexican place in town.  The food is awesome!  Even the kids love it!

Gino did a good job of getting a picture of everyone while we were at dinner.  :)

Cooper was running a low-grade fever, so we stayed home from church just in case.  I did get in my car at one point, and this temp was not cool!

He found his bandana from the cruise and wanted to be a pirate - haha.

Before Matt and I went to bed, we got all of Cooper's birthday presents set up for when he woke up in the morning!
