Cooper - 17 Months Old!

We are creeping up on 1 1/2 years old for Cooper very quickly!  He was 16 months old (in his 17th month) from October 25 - November 24.

Stats:
Weight: 28ish lbs
Clothes: He's still in 18 month and 24 months clothes, but the 18 month stuff is starting to get too little.
Diapers: Size 5
Shoes: Size 5 1/2 or 6 WIDE

Schedule:  Coop's schedule is the same as last month:
7 am - up for the day!
7:45 - 8:00 - breakfast and milk sippy
10:00 - snack and water
11:45 - 12:00 - lunch and milk sippy
12:30 - 12:45ish - down for nap
3:00 - 3:30ish - up from nap
3:30 - snack and water
5:30 - dinner and milk sippy
Bath immediately after dinner
7:00 - 7:15 - bed time

Sleeping:  The time change did not treat Cooper well.  We are several weeks out and our poor boy is still messed up.  There are still some days where he wakes up at 5:30 or 6 thinking that it's 6:30 or 7.  I'm hoping that he will get over this soon.  I know it's got to be miserable for him when he gets up so much sooner than he should be.

Teeth:  His bottom molars finally busted through.  Thank goodness!  They were a booger, for sure.  His count is currently up to 12.  I thought we were going to get a little break from teething for a while, but I'm pretty sure that he's started working on his canines, now.  He is still drooling non-stop, has been pretty fussy, and hasn't been eating as much as he usually does - it has got to be teething.  8 more teeth and then we'll be done with this junk!

Walking:  This boy is on the GO!  He is super close to a full out run these days.  He has been leaping huge amounts in his physical development this month (which is why I think his talking was minimal this month).  He is practically running, he is climbing on EVERYTHING (couches, chairs, boxes, - anything!), and he also started to turn in circles this month (keeping one foot in place and turning around with the other foot), and he has also started to walk backwards this month.  I don't remember when LL learned to walk backwards, but I very seriously doubt that it was this early.

Talking:  He hasn't been talking a ton this month, but he has added some new words.  He can say "fish", "bus", and "horse".  I'm also fairly certain that he says either "this" or "what's this?" pretty much all the time.  He is constantly pointing a things and saying "this" until we give him an answer.  It sounds kind of funny, but I know that's what he saying, so I'm going to count it.  I am going to talk to the doctor at his 18 month appointment at the beginning of January.  While Coop does talk, it is very limited.  He will learn a word, say it quite a bit, and then not say it anymore.  His comprehension is through the roof (he understands exactly what you tell him/ask him to do), but he is just not talkative.  It really is something that I've been stressing about a ton.  LL was always a HUGE talker (she had over 60 words at 18 months), so this is very new to me.  I don't think anything is "wrong" with him because his comprehension is totally there, I just don't know why he doesn't say anything!  Does anyone else have any experience with a child like this?

Body Parts: Coming into this month, he already knew eyes, teeth, belly, and legs.  This month, we've been working on hair, nose, and feet.  He's great at hair, and we're still working on feet.  For all of his facial features (instead of teeth), he won't point to his own - only someone else's.  So if I ask him where eyes are, he'll touch mine.  But he won't touch his.  Any ideas on how to teach him that he has them also??  He will touch his own belly, legs, and hair!  Just not his face.  Crazy boy.

Silly Face:  For some reason this month, Coop started making some really random and really funny faces.  It kind of came out of now where, and it only happened when he was eating.  It was kind of like everything he was eating was super sour??  The only thing I could think of is that maybe teething was messing up tastes/textures of things for him?  I have no idea, but he has stopped it!

Toys: Vehicles are still at the top of this boy's list.  It's funny, because it's for sure vehicles that are more of the ground variety.  What I mean is, he much prefers tractors and cars to helicopters and airplanes.  He got a hold of LL's babydoll stroller and has loved pushing it around the house.  Nevermind that it's pink.  :)  He doesn't want the doll in it, though.  He will promptly through that out if there is one in there.

By far, his new obsession this month is blocks.  Aunt Laura gave us some blocks that used to belong to Ben, and we pulled those out this month.  Cooper LOVES them.  He will happily play with them for an extended period of time, and he has gotten very good at stacking them.  What really impresses me is that he doesn't stack them with wide end against wide end - he stacks them skinny end against skinny end.  That is so much harder, but he is so good at it!  He is also so great at not getting made if they fall down (he never cries about it).  He just picks them up and starts again!  He can get about 3 blocks stacked doing it the hard way.  Grammy and Pop have the square alphabet blocks at their house, and he can get up to 8 of them stacked up.  Not bad at all!

Misc:

Eating snack with his friends at church.

First sucker.  He did NOT keep it long.  He just wasn't super interested and would have rather chewed on the stick.

Both of my babies at 17 months!

Ummm, I'm going to be buying his hand-me-downs soon. He is now bigger than Preston, even his shoe size! Preston had great comprehension/receptive communication skills, but his language was delayed until he got tubes in his ears at 19 months. He had recurring double ear infections though and his hearing was limited we found out after the surgery.

I have read and heard that kids with older siblings may not talk as much because they have that older sibling to interject and just speak for them. Does Cooper talk more while being watched by his grandparents? Maybe a Mother's Morning Out once a week could help reinforce language development? He's still young, and I am sure he is fine though. That boy is just learning SO much all at once right now!
