28 Week OB Visit

I truly can not believe that I'm at my every-2-weeks appointments.  I feel like I'm going to the doctor all the time now - haha.  I had my last appointment right before I left for California.  Then, yesterday, I had my next appointment.  Marie told me at 26 weeks that she would be on vacation in Vegas the next time I came, so I knew I would be seeing someone else.  When I went to schedule my appointment, they just put me with Teresa, which was fine with me. I also knew that, since I was going to be 28 weeks at this appointment, they would do my glucose test.

Normally, I try and get my appointments pretty late so that I don't have to miss very much school (usually about 4:00), but I had to make this one for 2:30 so that I would have enough time to take the glucose test.  Matt had a full day planned at work, so he wasn't able to make it to this appointment.  Honestly, it was a good one to miss, though.

I got there right at 2:20 and they took me straight back.  They were moving crazy fast, because I only sat down for a second before they took me to do my urine/weight/blood pressure.  My weight was the same as what I had at home (+12 lbs) and my blood pressure was more normal (for me) than it was last time (115/63).  Later, Teresa said my urine was good, too.  So yay.

After they got all of my vitals, they took me to the lab so that I could go ahead and drink that nasty drink.  They gave me the same kind that they did with LL - it tastes like orange soda (without the carbonation) and SUPER thick and sweet.  Almost like orange soda syrup.  She told me I had up to 5 minutes to drink it, but I was done in less than 2.  It's honestly not THAT bad to me.  Just super thick.

After I drank it, she took me back to wait to see Teresa.  Again, they got me back super quick.  Teresa listened to the heartbeat and it was in the 143-151 range.  She also commented that he was a mover - she is totally right!

Then she asked if I had any questions.  I told her she was probably going to think that I was crazy and then I explained that I was having pain...ummm...in a not fun place.  I told her it felt like my actual bone hurt.  She confirmed what I thought: A woman's pelvic bone comes together right in the front.  When you have a baby, it separates to make room for the baby to come through.  Sometimes, it can start to separate early and that can cause pain.  That's exactly what's happening with me.  It's nothing to worry about, but there's also not much we can do.  She said I can alternate heat and ice to see if that helps (can you see me doing THAT at school?!  haha) and try Tylenol.  Other than that, I'm just going to have to deal with it.  Which is exactly what I thought she'd say.  She pushed on it to make sure that it was the place that I was talking about, and YES - it was.  That junk hurt like CRAZY!

Then I asked her about the epidural class.  With LL, I had to take the class and sign a form to get the epidural.  This time, I knew I'd probably have to sign the form again, but I had no idea if I would have to take the class.  She said that since I've already taken it once, I do NOT have to take the class again.  All I have to do is go to Anesthesia Associates and tell them that I've already taken the class 3 years ago and that I need to sign the paperwork.  They'll give me everything I need and send me home with a copy.  Nice and easy!

That was really all I needed with her, so she took me back to the waiting room for the lab.  Once you drink your glucose drink, you have to wait an hour before they can draw your blood.  At this point, I still had 45 minutes left!  I'm telling you - I sure was shuffled around!  What's funny is that, while I was waiting, a girl I know came in the same waiting room and we talked for a bit (she is Matt's best friend Clint's sister).  Then, I was texting with my friend Sarah (who is Clint's wife and also pregnant) to see how she was doing - and she was at Southern OB at the same time, too, for her 22 week appointment!  It was just funny to me that we were all there at the same time.

Finally, I got back into the lab to get my blood drawn.  She asked me which arm I wanted her to use and I told her it didn't really matter.  She said my left arm looked better, but she'd have to go a little higher up.  I didn't think anything of it until she poked me WAY up high!  Like, in my muscle!  It hurt SO BAD!

She said it would take 2-3 days to get my results back and they would only call if I failed.  So let's hope that I make it without hearing from them!  Overall, it was a good appointment and I go back in two weeks for my next one!

Good to know that you don't have to go to that class again, not sure why I thought you did :/

I had no idea what they would tell me, but I'm sure glad that I don't have to sit through it again!
