I left on Saturday morning around 8 o'clock. I really had no idea how long it would take, where to go, etc. I kid you not - about 10 miles from the hotel I got off of I-95 and onto I-16.....one mile marker ahead of my sister! We couldn't have planned that if we tried!
We found our hotel, found some parking, and headed straight to lunch because we were starving. We just ate at Wild Wings because it was close and we wanted to go ahead and eat. After we ate, we just walked around the City Market some. It was such a neat little area with shops, restaurants, and tons of stuff to do.
Before we left the City Market, we stopped to get some ice cream. I for the life of me can't remember what Laura got, but I go pecan praline and it was sooooo good!
We left the City Market and headed down to River Street to look around. We didn't walk around a ton because it was super hot and I got exhausted pretty quickly. We headed back to the hotel to rest, cool off, and I took a little nap. When I woke up, Laura had done some research on some stuff to do. She bought us some trolley tickets, so we went ahead and got on one and toured the historic part of the city. We ended up getting a really awesome guide and really enjoyed the tour. While I was sleeping, Laura also talk to the concierge at the hotel about some neat places to eat for dinner that we wouldn't necessarily know about. She recommended 606 Cafe. We just got off on one of our trolley stops and walked - I loved it!
It was the neatest little eclectic cafe. There were crazy paintings on the wall, underwear hanging from the ceilings, and feather boas everywhere. And all the waitresses were in short tu-tus and tank tops. But the food was amazing! I just got a cheeseburger and tater tots (I LOVE tater tots if they're done right....and I totally have a million Napoleon Dynamite jokes running through my head every time I think about tater tots), but Laura got this REALLY awesome meatloaf sandwich with cranberry jelly on it. It sounds gross but it was SOOO good!
After we ate, we just strolled back through City Market and then down to River Street again. When Laura booked the hotel room, she actually got a discount if she signed up to take a ghost tour (aka "The Trolley of the Doomed!"). The ghost tour picked us up on River Street, so we just hung out there until it was time to get on. It was pretty funny/lame and totally not scary at all. We were having a good time just riding around and listening to all of the "ghost stories". Then they pulled back up to River Street and led us inside of this old building. Um....no thanks. Me no likey. There were no lights and they sat us down in this old room on crates and junk. I ended up having to sit on a crate with an old guy and his wife instead of with Laura. I warned him. I was doing fine until they started turning alllll of the lights out and banging junk around. Then I started fr-ea-king out. And I was like the only one who was. And I realized that, and it made me start laughing. And then I got the giggles and couldn't STOP laughing. Basically, I made a fool of myself. But at least everyone else was entertained, right? After all of that excitement, I was just ready for bed.

The next morning we decided to take the trolley tour again, but to get off at some of the stops and look around. This didn't go quite as we planned, but we did end up at the visitor's center. Laura had also gotten us tickets to see the museum there, so we spent a good chunk of time walking around that. We did get to see one of the actual "Forest Gump benches" and we took an illegal picture of it. I would post it, but I look like a fat heifer, so I'll spare you. After the museum, we ate lunch at the Whistle Stop Cafe (where I had to explain to Laura what it was - hello! Fried Green Tomatoes, people!) which was mega gross and then headed back to the hotel for another nap time. When I woke up, we walked around the city more, enjoyed coke floats, and then put our names on the list for dinner. We ended up eating at Vinnie Van Go Go's which is like the most AWESOME pizza place ever. If you're ever in Savannah, check it out. It's in City Market. It's worth the wait. We got a ham and pineapple pizza and it was soooo delicious!
I think Laura's float was vanilla soda and mango gelatto?
Mine was just plain root beer soda and vanilla gelatto. I know.

The next morning we got up pretty late and headed out to a late breakfast. We went to Goose Feather's which was just on the other side of Ellis Square (our hotel was the Inn at Ellis Square). We both ordered breakfast, but mine ended up being totally not what I wanted, so we ended up sharing this awesome Cinnamon Bun. This was such an awesome trip and I really enjoyed spending some uninterrupted time with my sister. I think we need to make this a yearly thing! ;)

My list of things to do the next time I go to Savannah:
1. Go eat at The Lady and Sons. No matter how long I have to wait to put my name on the list!
2. Tour some of the older homes featured on the trolley tour.
3. Go see some shops deeper into Savannah (around the squares) - not just City Market and River Street
4. Take a horse carriage ride
5. Make better choices when it comes to where to eat. Find amazing food!

We went to Savannah for the first time last July 4th weekend and the only thing my husband talks about is 1. the pralines and 2. Vinnie Van Go Go's! LOL...bless him, he still says that's the best pizza ever (which it is but its just funny to hear him constantly say it a year later). We took a carriage ride and I'll save my money next time. I want to do a trolley tour. I think my favorite part of Savannah was listening to the blues band on River Street. All this talk makes me want to go back like now! LOL. Glad you enjoyed yourself!!!
Not sure how you booked your room but I booked ours at priceline.com and stayed at Avia and we only paid like $100 for a $300 room (they upgraded us when we got there b/c our room wasn't available). Bonus points for that!! ;o)
