Azalea Festival 2011

In case you haven't noticed, our family LOVES going to festivals!  It's just such a fun thing to do in spring/summer.  We love being outside, seeing all the people, walking around, looking a booths, and eating horribly bad for you food.  We usually go to the Honey Bee festival (posts from 2010 and 2009), and every year my mom and my sister and I meet up in Macon for the Cherry Blossom festival (coming up in two weeks!  So excited!) and we've even gone of the Flatlander's Frolic in Lakeland.

This past Saturday was the Azalea Festival in Valdosta.  We didn't go last year (can't remember why??), but my mom had LL, so she took her.  We decided that we for sure wanted to go as a family this year.  This was LL's second time, but our first time!  Grammy was planning on going, too, because she had to work a booth for the Choral Guild, and Oma and Opa decided to come also when we told them our plans.

Here's what our day looked like!

I was trying to take a picture of her as soon as we got her out of the car and into the stroller.  She wouldn't look at me for anything!  I asked her to smile and I got nothing.  I asked her to show me her teeth and this is what I got - haha.

Before we left the house I told her that she would be able to ride a pony at the festival.  Of course this is the first thing that she wanted to do!  Here she is riding her pony, French Toast.

Such a big girl holding on all by herself!  She LOVES riding horses!

Isn't this the sweetest expression on her face??

Right after we got done riding the pony, we went straight over to the petting zoo.

The pig was sun bathing - how funny!

Petting a baby calf (is it repetitive to say that?) that was only 1 week old!  He was so soft and so sleepy!

They had a cute little sand area set up to play in.  But we didn't stay long because....

....somebody wanted to eat it!  Gross!

Then we went to watch some really neat Frisbee dogs that were awesome!

They also had some pig races!  Did you know that pigs can swim??  They totally can!  Part of the races was that they had to swim a 24 foot channel!  It was SO FUNNY!  They swim just like dogs with their little snouts sticking up above the water!  (And for those of you who think it's "country" to have pig races at the festival - the people who do it are totally not from here AND they travel all over the U.S. and Canada.  So ha.)

We took a picture break in front of the azalea bushes since we were, after all, at the Azalea Festival.

With Opa and Oma.  So happy they're back in town now!

Riding the train with Opa.

Lunch!  Gyros and Lemonade - duh!

After lunch and right before we left, LL talked Opa into buying her one more pony ride.  :)  Like the clip in her hair?  I bought it at the festival for only $3!  If you have a girl, you know that's super cheap for hair stuff!

We had a BLAST and I'm so glad that LL did, too!  It's so nice to get out of the house and spend time doing really neat things together as a family.  We enjoyed spending time with Oma, Opa, and Grammy, too!  This really makes me pumped for the Cherry Blossom in two weeks!
